Comet channel has had some good movies on today. Trick or Treat (the 80s one with Ozzy) and the Exorcist III, which is the best one of them all imo, and one of the few movies that genuinely unsettles me. They used both silence and sound to create a dreadful feeling. No background music. I’ve noticed that movies that are relatively quiet with minimal or no music are the ones that scare me the most. Also, Brad Dourif is underrated and can be absolutely terrifying when he wants. I swear he scares the crap out of me in that movie. I do find it funny that in both The Exorcist III and the Childs Play series, he plays the part of an executed serial killer who then possesses another body. He even says “It’s child’s play” in the Exorcist III, which came out two years after the first Child’s Play lmao. It was like Doug Bradley calling someone “pinhead” in one of the Wrong Turn movies 😆 I love those subtle references.

Another director who is really good with sound is John Carpenter. The three movies in his “apocalypse trilogy” all have that minimal noise and not much, if any, background music, and they are all fucking creepy. Those movies are The Thing, Prince of Darkness, and The Mouth of Madness. All of them have this minimal, plodding, very scarce background noise. You’d have to have watched them to know what I mean by “plodding”. It’s hella creepy, and I guess it could be considered background music technically, but I think it’s more of a design. I don’t know if what I just wrote made sense at all 😅 Most people don’t know those were supposed to be a trilogy either. It makes sense if you watch them all in a row. Similar atmosphere, sounds, and all of them make you think the end of the world is nigh. Insanely good stuff.

I know some people would punch me in the face for saying one of the Exorcist sequels is better than the original but…I strongly believe it is, and I’m not even that big a fan of the first one! The second Exorcist movie was…awful. Terribad. I do not think anyone would punch me in the face for saying THAT. 😬

I think my weird stomach bug is starting to fade away, finally. I’ve felt mostly okay today. I probably shouldn’t have said that, I’m gonna jinx myself 😂 At least I feel a whole lot better than I did yesterday, both mentally and physically. Thankful for that. I was some kind of pissed off yesterday lol

I hope the Russian spam bots that read this enjoyed my movie ramblings haha. I wish I had someone to talk horror movies with. I could bore the hell out of them on why I (and it seems, a lot of other horror nerds) believe Hellraiser and Event Horizon take place in the same universe. 🧐

Edit: it’s almost 3am and I hear Day of the Dead on in there. 💚 Yeah, I keep the living room tv on at night for background noise lol. Silence is not golden 😅

Edit: oh my goodness https://thoughtcatalog.com/eric-redding/2016/01/44-people-share-their-crazy-and-dangerous-ambien-horror-stories/

I was prescribed Ambien in the early 2000s. The worst that happened to me was the walls in my room warping, bulging and changing colours (I ran to my parents bedroom and made mom sleep with me because I was scared 😭 please note I was probably 17 at the time, pitiful I know) and the posters on my wall silently “talking” to me. I would see the people in them moving and would slowly walk around from poster to poster and nod my head at whatever they were saying. Ambien is crazy. I quit taking it because sometimes it actually knocked me out before the hallucinations, but I would wake up 5 hours later tripping balls, which was actually pretty scary. I tried Lunesta after that, but it made it taste like I’d slept with a hobo’s foot in my mouth all night, and no amount of brushing, mouthwash or mints got rid of it. Never again on both of them, I’ll just be a night owl 😂

Silent Hill: Revelation

If it’s SH, I’ll play/watch/read.

I ordered it off Amazon. Odd film, doesn’t make sense within the Silent Hill universe. It was entertaining but still. While Pyramid Head is my favorite monster, and it was good to see him again, he only makes sense in the context of SH2. No James, no Pyramid Head. He’s a manifestation of James guilt over killing his wife, he is punishing himself. That’s why PH exists. The town manifests someone’s personal demons. I had the same issue with the first movie, even though I do love it and it’s one of my favorite movies.

I also hate the retconning on his origin. I won’t even get into that hot mess…kinda pissed me off.

Anyhow…I bought a dress at a thrift shop. Everyone should probably have at least one dress in case of a formal event of some kind, unless you absolutely refuse to wear one lol. It’s black, of course. Because what other color would I buy. The last time I wore a dress was my friend’s wedding in 2016. I had no dress shoes either so I had to wear my ratty old boots 😂 It was weird and I felt weird. Actually, because of that wedding, I swore I’d never go to another one! I did not have a good time. My friend’s MOH’s son kind of made fun of me. I said he was a Justin Bieber-lookin’ little shit. Seriously, can’t stand teenage boys.

I just missed my cousins wedding 😕 I was really close with her when I was about 14 and she was about 2. I loved her to death and even read a page of a phone book because she wanted me to. We kind of grew apart which makes me sad, and I did want to go to her wedding. It was three hours away and mom didn’t think dad could tolerate driving that long right now. I was disappointed but when I learned that people would be socializing for two fucking hours between the wedding and reception, I was kind of relieved because we all know how bad I am at that and how it stresses me out. They’re on their honeymoon in Washington state, uncle sent pictures and the landscapes are beautiful. I really hope they are having a good time!

So the other night I watched The Sand and now I’m watching Lavalantula, which is about lava-breathing giant spiders. I love this shit 😅

I make the last payment on my expensive shoes next month, thank god. They’re beautiful but costly! I’m also getting a gaming pc which I’m paying only $25 a month for through Affirm. It is of course refurbished, which makes it affordable for me. I’m excited.

So far I’ve gotten 16 likes on Plenty of Fish but have no way to make contact with them unless I pay. I’m starting to wonder what’s the point of having the free version of the app if I can’t really do anything!

I actually sat down and watched a movie tonight. Two actually. I have been in this same stupid routine for the past almost five years. Wake up, go out, come home, sleep for hours, eat something small, take shower, go to bed and watch videos on my phone, sleep fitfully. Absolutely stuck in that routine and could not break out of it. I lost motivation to do much of anything, really. The past week or so has been different. I came home one afternoon and played games. I was shocked I did that instead of sleeping. I did that again the next day and worked on a diy jewelry project until my neck hurt so bad I had to stop. Today, I did sleep when I came home, but to my credit, I was literally falling over tired for whatever reason. I woke up and decided out of the blue that I wanted to watch a movie.

I picked one I hadn’t seen in well over 15 years and went to the game room, got comfy and popped it in the blu-ray player. The movie was ‘Pulse’, which was an American remake of a Japanese (I think?) movie. I remember it scaring me so bad I had a panic attack back then, but this time I was able to enjoy it. I’m not sure why people tend to think of it as a bad movie. Not every Western remake of Asian horror movies is bad! People (critics lol) say ‘The Grudge’ is terrible but I love that movie. And that’s why I ignore critics’ opinions.

Then I decided to watch another one, ‘Smile’, which is one of the best newer horror movies I’ve seen. It was good to watch it a second time. It’s getting a sequel later this year around spooky season and I’m excited for it.

I’m proud of myself for finally breaking out of this awful years-long rut.

Now I’m tucked in bed and I’m gonna watch my usual videos on YouTube 😊 Good night, internet!
