six animals that used to be much, much bigger

Could these very large penguins have possibly been….white and blind? *narrows eyes*

I sense Elder Things and shoggoths about!

Photo books

I was looking at photo books on Amazon and randomly thought of Charles Freger’s series of “Wilder Mann” photos, documenting “wild man and savage” image across Europe. It’s very strange and unexpected folk costume from many European countries that have been worn during various festivals over the centuries. I didn’t know there was a book of it!  I might get it for Christmas. I have never seen the whole collection before. He did a collection of Japanese folk/masquerade costume as well, same concept as the above. He’s done several more of other countries in the same vein, but I’m more interested in Europe and Asia. 💜

Inspired by finding that book, I checked for any books from another photographer I like, Todd Hido. I’m not crazy about what’s posted on his site and instagram recently, but I love his older work. I found a new edition of an apparently hard to come by photo book that was released in 2002. It’s called “House Hunting” and it’s actually my favourites of what I’ve seen of his work. I used to post his photos to a specific Pinterest board obsessively! It’s a series of very atmospheric and eerie photos of houses, usually at night, with the windows lit, and…I’m not sure how to explain them. It’s better to just look 😅 Here is a link to the aforementioned Pinterest board. It’s probably the favourite board I’ve ever made, and I joined Pinterest in 2009 and have made a metric shit ton of boards since, and I was very picky! This one is fucking old as hell too but I still love it. As you can see, I was going for a specific aesthetic and his photos were MADE for that board’s aesthetic goals.

I swear to god WordPress is glitching so bad lately. I’m definitely leaning towards switching to Greymatter.

Edit: None of the links work (except the Pinterest board) and WP won’t allow me to fix them. JFC!! I’ll fix em on my laptop later today, I gotta get on it and make those fanlistings before they’re overdue. Ugh.😤 This is so aggravating. Greymatter it is, when I gain the necessary patience. I need simplicity 🫩

I have a sudden urge to read the Ghost Eye and Bunnicula books. I think there’s only one Ghost Eye book, which was a shame. It was beautifully illustrated.
